andrew w.k. and andrew k.m. have a conversation

A couple Thursdays ago, I had the opportunity to talk to one of the more unique and compelling personalities in music: Andrew WK.

You may be familiar with a little album he recorded earlier this decade about partying. I Get Wet is a solid indicator of his grand vision: life is simple and fun is good. The record was about as subtle as a brick to the face - a gleeful exercise in stupid fun that garnered critical and commercial success.

Those seeking a little more complexity - or perhaps, if they're shameless, "indie cred" - in their music, will be delighted to know that Mr. WK has a rapidly-expanding discography. He's recently released music with artists from Lee "Scratch" Perry to Nardwuar, the Human Serviette. A hip-hop mixtape is soon to be released, as well as an instrumental piano album on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace! Label.

Andrew and I had a long and enlightening talk about a whole bunch of things. Browse these links to get some of Andrew’s perspective, thing-by-thing:

HIS UPCOMING INSTRUMENTAL PIANO ALBUM, ’55 CADILLAC

FINDING "WHOLE NEW SENSATIONS" IN DESOLATE PARTS OF CANADA

GHOSTS N’ STUFF - "STRANGE PLACES" AND "THICK AIR"

"GETTING A BIG FEELING OUT" – MORE THAN MUSIC

"SOME OF THE GREATEST PEOPLE THAT EXIST"

COVERS, AND "SOME ESSENTIAL ALBUMS"

"WHERE YOU FROM"

ON CRITICS AND MUSIC WRITERS (US!) – "IT'S JUST IDEAS"
