
A couple Thursdays ago, I
had the opportunity to talk to one of the more unique and compelling
personalities in music: Andrew WK.
You may be familiar with a
little album he recorded earlier this decade about partying. I Get Wet
is a solid indicator of his grand vision: life is simple and fun is
good. The record was about as subtle as a brick to the face
- a gleeful
exercise in stupid fun that garnered critical and commercial success.
Those seeking a little more
complexity - or perhaps, if they're shameless,
"indie cred" - in their
music, will be delighted to know that Mr. WK has a rapidly-expanding
discography. He's recently released music with artists from Lee
"Scratch" Perry to Nardwuar, the Human Serviette. A hip-hop mixtape is
soon to be released, as well as an instrumental piano album on Thurston
Moore's Ecstatic Peace! Label.
