Built By Snow

"Mega" CDEP

self-released

Genre: synth-pop, power pop

Michigan, USA

May 8, 2009

Texas's very own Built By Snow play smart, nerdy electro power-pop in the vein of Ozma but perhaps more synth-obsessed. Basically, far from what I normally imagine coming out of Austin, Texas. But that's neither here nor there, as this young foursome, led by principal songwriter JP Pfertner, knows how to put together a mean pop song. Witness yourself humming along to the deft woo-oo-oos of “Something in 3D." Not every song attacks with equal force (yes, there are a few sinkers - of which “Science of Love” comes to mind), but there's enough to rally around here. They may not be the hippest kids on the block, but Built By Snow has a knack for well-placed pop hooks and sticky choruses, and Mega is a brief but satisfying romp as a result.

Built By Snow will be playing on June 18 at The Boat as part of Toronto's 2009 North by Northeast festival.
