"Valentine" CD

Ad Noiseam Records

Genre: electronica, breakcore

February 2007

YES. denver-based breakcore/hardcore techno/electronic act cdatakill has long been a name i've seen around the underground techno scene but valentine finally gives me a chance to see what all the fuss is about. and what do you know? it's completely warranted. valentine is a wonderful, consistently engaging journey that weaves the dark and mechanical with a lulling warmth and humanity. this can best be sampled on a track like "you are mine," which juxtaposes a depraved metallic quality against tribal beats and chants. or perhaps we should look at the industrialized billie holiday "cover," "yesterdays," and its noisy, plodding rhythm. on the more electronic end of matters, we get gushing infomercial jam "hungry" and haunting donnie darko-reminiscent "mingi." to name a few. valentine is a powerful work of new electronic music - this sort of sound seems to be a major direction of techno/idm these days, and cdatakill has come up with quite a fine sample on his new disc.
