Nov 3 - 9 2003

Eleven Eyes is a jazz group who blend jazz instrumentation with electronic turntablism and rhythm.  Depth Perception is their new album and its songs are a lot like those of Kid Koala project Bullfrog, except with a bit less funk and no vocals.

Mike Pardew's guitar playing is one of the best aspects of this disc.  Coupled with Calkins' terrific sax, they create some wonderful melodies and energy - "Big Dig," for example, is an infectious, enjoyable romp that will stay solid for listen after listen.  Meanwhile, a character known only as "The Turntable Enabler" is responsible for some fantastic record playing, for example on the poppy opener, "Overdrawn" and the funky epic "Thierry's Magik."

Overall, Depth Perception is a very enjoyable and entertaining album from a new electro-funk-jazz project.  Given the right exposure and promotion, Eleven Eyes could really have a future ahead of them - the talent's certainly there.
