Heal is the alter ego of French former industrial performer Laurent Perrier (Nox), who used to run the experimental Odd Size label and has recently started up the more techno-focused Sound on Probation imprint. Starting Back is his latest effort under this moniker, and it follows a relatively straightforward electronica vein. A good use of stereo sound, some complex beats and enjoyable synth melodies round out this fine album, which is kind of like New Age meets Aphex Twin and Autechre. On a good sound system this would absolutely destroy you if you were stoned, which speaks to the complexity Heal is able to muster up. Recommended: stereo sound and high volume.
