I won't often say this of singles, but this 33.3 RPM seven-incher is actually pretty good value.  There is a fine selection of four indie rock songs here from a couple of impressive bands, The New Lows from Brooklyn, NY and Heroic Lane Change from Los Angeles, CA.  Immediately The New Lows side caught my attention; "Keep It Simple" is a clunky, almost grungy rock song that's got a Nirvana feel to it.  "The Thrill," meanwhile, is the record's best song - it has a nice poppy feel and a chorus that really sticks.  Heroic Lane Change (who have an awesome name, by the way) are more in the pop-punk vein; "Syndication" is zippy and catchy, while "Sick Of You" is slower, reminiscent of The Promise Ring and Braid to an extent.  Slow January has started off strong with volume one of this Playing Around With Music series.  Here's hoping number two will introduce the world to another couple of exciting new bands.
