Limited Sight Distance (LSD for short) is the songwriting project of Stefanie Fix, a spacey folksmith who specializes in a unique breed of atmospheric, stellar pop. Enlisting the talent of members of Mercury Rev, Hopewell, and Varnaline, she has created this short four-song EP.

The two best songs are "Cynical Eyes" and "It's Only Me." The former is a very spacey, airy tune that features some beautiful guitar plucking and emotional vocals. "It's Only Me," meanwhile, is a delightful pop tune with some very Mercury Rev-esque instrumental bits going on in the background. The other two songs also have good parts, but come off as being a bit less pleasant and soothing on the ears.

Altogether, Fix's exploration of a spacey folk sound, which she has dubbed "spacefolk," is certainly a welcome one. The results aren't completely perfect, but for a debut they are quite successful. However, one wonders why she went for the LSD acronym for her band name, seeing as the band's sound isn't very psychedelic at all.

If you enjoy space pop like that of Hopewell and Mercury Rev, then chances are you'll enjoy this EP.
