I can't get enough of Loose Thread Recordings. Okay, so I've only heard this sampler and Zelienople's "Pajama Avenue" album, but I am already fascinated by how breathtakingly wonderful their releases are. With songs from Melochrome, Western Automatic, The Cricket Rumor Mill, Zelienople, and The Lesser Birds of Paradise, this has everything you need to soothe your cravings for calm, relaxing pop - of both the electronic and acoustic styles.

The collection starts off with Western Automatic's dreamy "2nd Of Many" and moves on from there, with many highpoints and few lows. The Cricket Rumor Mill's "Give Me A Day (Or Two)" is one of the best parts here - it's an endearing instrumental that will make everything around you just seem perfect... Music for a dim-lit, cozy room. Melochrome's "Out Late," meanwhile, is a L'altra-influenced pop charmer that meets wonderful, hushed vocals with a soothing layer of horns. It's an enduringly blissful and elegant piece. The Lesser Birds of Paradise's "She's Got A Set Of Wings," meanwhile, is another charmer. Heavily influenced by the less experimental side of Yo La Tengo, it will be stuck in your head for days. Zelienople's contributions, meanwhile, are cinematic slowcore ballads, and Western Automatic treats us to some of the most lush electronica ever made.

Altogether, this is one of the most wonderful samplers I have ever received. If you're in the game for calm, elegant pop music - be it electronic, instrumental, or shoegazer - then you'll definitely want to check this CD out. My suggestion? Buy Zelienople's "Pajama Avenue" off their website and sign up to get this sampler for free with it.
