Maplewood Lane

"The Golden Skies" CDEP

Anniedale Records

Genres: indie pop, pop/rock

April 2006

With a lush, spacey pop sound similar to Ivy and The Cardigans, Vancouver's Maplewood Lane is out to take the world, one endeared fan after another. The Golden Skies is six songs of absolute pop, with infectious opener "Come What May" and incredible "Canadian Winters" leading the way. Cutesy "The Brightest Star" also makes itself known, though the last three tracks - though pleasant - seem to seep a bit into the background. They are still worth listening to, but don't hold your attention as well as the others. Regardless, this disc is worth it for the first half - even if the second drags a bit.
