December 2005

I'm not sure what to make of this strange little disc from Finnish act The Mattoid.  Armed with a deep, throaty voice and some very interesting compositions, this guy has come up with an EP's worth of really nifty stuff.  I'm not in love with Eternifinity, but listening to it can be quite enjoyable - from the confronting "hey"s of "Joy" to the eerily dark "Happiness."  "Little Surfer" and "Blow" are my two favourite songs on this disc; the dark, layered melodies of the former are perfect once you've adjusted to them, while the latter has a nice, looser sound.  I really like this record; it takes some getting used to, but there's plenty to enjoy once you've grown accustomed to the sound.
