Navy

"The New Blue" CD

Tik Tok Tik Tok

Genre: alt rock

March 2007

navy play catchy if uninteresting heartfelt alternative rock, basically what the kids these days mistakenly call "emo." the band is fortunately fairly unassuming and use some pretty dandy melodies so that's what keeps the new blue (clever name, i'll admit) afloat. particularly juicy are the spacey, echoey vocals on "jam sandwich" and the synthy strokes on "grape juice everywhere." strangely - and this could be a first! - the two last songs, "comfortable" and "tina" were the best. and you gotta love folks who finish strong. for all its conventionality, the new blue is a catchy record for sure. can you say guilty pleasure?
