This, the first volume in the "New Music Sampler" series, seems to dig up memories of those crappy, corporation-sponsored "indie" compilations of the past.  I mean, even the name, "New Music Sampler" sounds familiar!  And it's important to note that no respectable indie band has ever gotten its start on one of those comps.  There's good reason for that too.

That said, this compilation is not all bad.  There are decent contributions from Lynn Frances Anderson, The Plumrecordings, Kittymonkey, and a few more, but as a whole this features a bit too much drab, "wannabe" pop/rock filth.  It's safe to say none of these bands will be the next Pavement!

If it weren't for the few saving graces, this sampler could just be panned without mention, much like the others of the same nature.  As a whole, this lies as a run-of-the-mill "new music sampler" that works more as a free giveaway than an actual purchase.  It will be interesting to see if they improve matters on their future volumes.
