Provocateur
"Consider This A Warning" CDR
EP
Self-released
Genre: electro pop, synth pop
June 2006 |
Since they're looking for a label, Provocateur
might want to give Omega Point a knock - they seem right up the
electro/punk/whatever label's alley. They'll need to work on their
songs first, though. This EP isn't bad for synth-pop, but it has a few
clear flaws. First off, the title-track: it's got a definite sex
appeal (in a dark sort of way), and a decent melody, but it doesn't
make you want to listen to it over and over again. Perhaps the synths
are a bit repulsive, in their gushy, unapologetic manner. However,
it's this EP's best shot at a single; "Writhe" is nice and creepy, but
not immediate enough, while "Ain't Big Enough" hasn't got the vocal
hooks. "Out Of My System" also works from a single perspective, though
it takes a close second to the title-track. This boy/girl duo have a
bit of a goth thing going on with their makeup and their music's dark
mood, which adds a nice edge to their already appealing image, though
they will still need to beef up their songwriting chops before they
garner any worthwhile label interest. Promising.
