A Foreward is Sleeper Set Sail's debut for established Canadian indie Sonic Unyon, and it's a five track EP featuring two previously released tunes, two songs scheduled to appear on their new full-length, and one exclusive number. The name of the game here is impassioned emo/alt. rock, filled with angsty lyrics and dramatic but melodic song structures. What it lacks in creativity it makes up in energy and musical solidness. These are enjoyable, catchy tunes that have a radio-ready quality to them. Indeed, your average alternative rock listener will feel right at home alongside winners like "Lifejacket" and "Patterns In Your Dash." The band proves their worth in energy with romping songs "The Redeemer" and "Phases," but also reveals a sensitive side with the meandering "Patterns In Your Dash" and "People Say It Makes Me Look Younger." Recommended for fans of No Knife, Piebald, and even Dashboard Confessional.
