"Somniloquies, Vol. 1" CD

Parasomnic Records

Genres: ambient, darkwave, industrial electronica

Oct 13 - 19 2003

Somniloquies Vol. 1 is a "a compilation of industrial, darkwave, ambient, noise, and experimental electronic artists" and it's the first release on Seattle-based label Parasomnic Records.  The selection of tracks on this disc is definitely a good one, with many talented artists on display.

Things start off abstractly with ambience by Azure Skies and experimental act Hollydrift.  Then the beats and rhythm kick off by way of Anaphylaxis and a dark, sparse Mayfairgrin track.  Also present on the comp are some solid darkwave tracks.  Substructure and Anticrisis both contribute very effective, meaty beaty songs.  Finale "Such Bitter Irony," by The Devouring Element, is a dark epic that is both creepy and moving - it's one of the disc's highlights, without a doubt.

This is a dark, powerful compilation with a very solid line-up.  You may be scared while listening, but hopefully you'll emerge safely.
