This, Verna Cannon's first album for the prolific Cargo label, is a nice collection of calm, elegant songs. The songs here are very smooth, and almost soothing at times. Molly Ledford, the band's singer, has a distinctively Julie Doiron-esque voice, but the instrumentation of the music is more like that of the Cowboy Junkies, with a tad of Galaxie 500 added in.

Songs like "Little Mice And Rabbits" and "Expecting An Answer" are warm, personal pieces that can easily lull you to sleep. Much is the same with the rest of the tracks, all of which are easy on the ears and mellow on the brain. Altogether, the calm elegancy of this album really is a treat.

If you're open for something warm and relaxing, the Verna Cannon is it. "Movie Star Faces" is a nice break from the more dark territory of Low and Cat Power. Cargo Music has made quite a catch; if this album is anything to go by, the Verna Cannon have a very bright future.
