Where The Spoken Play

Self-titled demo

Self-released

Genres: indie rock, indie pop

Jan 10 - 16 2005

Where The Spoken Play aren't much for elaboration.  Their website is brief and simple, their demo's liner notes are minimal (albeit convoluted), and their CDR only features four songs.  But that's all perfectly acceptable when you've got a unique sound like this.  WTSP are obviously working with limited production values on this disc, but they don't seem to suffer at all.  Their genre isn't really lo-fi; all in all, they have a familiar indie rock sound not far off from Clinic and Interpol at times ("TB," "A Night.")  While I'm not ready to put WTSP into constant rotation, I do quite like this demo.  The band isn't quite there yet - they could use a bit of songwriting practice and some higher recording standards - but they reek of potential and a keen indie rock sound.
